Exhibitions
The club has been a regular exhibitor over many years at the annual Midhurst Modellers Show on the last Sunday in February. We have in the past held small shows of our own, and we have reactivated this activity with an Open Day in Milland Valley Memorial Hall (MVMH) in October 2010, and October 2011 which was attended each time by about 100 adults plus numerous children. We have increased the number of shows we attend to about six per year and our Open Day is now an annual event, the next being on Sunday 28th October 2012 at MVMH.
Other Activities
Work Days
For 2011 we have introduced “work days” where we take over the main hall of MMVH to enable us to work on one of our layouts. We shall be having three or four of these work days throughout each year, to enable major work on layouts to be undertaken or running sessions prior to exhibitions. For insurance reasons these are only open to members.
Courses
In late 2010 we arranged, under the aegis of the Liphook U3A a “Building a Model Railway” course over 12 weekly sessions of 2 hours each. The course was attended by 11 “students” and was much enjoyed by everybody involved. The club prepared the course notes and provided the lecturers. This was part of our local celebration of 100 years of model railway clubs, which we used to improve the awareness of the club and of the hobby locally.
There is a likelihood of this course being re-run, commencing in March 2012. Please look out for further details/ announcements on the Liphook U3A web site. http://www.liphooku3a.org.uk/. or if you can, come along to the Liphook U3A Pop in on Wednesday 22nd February 2012 at the Liphook Millennium Hall between 14-00 and 16-30. The course leader will have a table and you are welcome to chat to him about the course or railway modelling in general. There are FREE home-made refreshments.
You need to be a member of Liphook U3A (University of the Third Age) or another local U3A to attend. See Liphook U3A web site for membership details
Running Sessions
We have recently sold our large 00 scale layout known as “Weyford on Sea” to a club member, as we are unlikely to have storage or club room space for it in the near future. The layout will be altered and modified to fit into its new home over the coming months. When that work is complete the club will be able to have four operating sessions per year on it, although the space may restrict numbers per session. The name Weyford is likely to be retained by the club and used for a forthcoming small layout.
